Preserving Falmouth's Heritage Falmouth Historical Society

The Falmouth Historical Society is one of 144 town historical societies in Maine which, along with the flagship Maine Historical Society, preserve artifacts and documents related to Maine's history to inform present and future generations of our state's heritage.  Since 1966, our job has been:

  • To acquire and preserve archives and artifacts pertaining to the history of Falmouth, Maine.
  • To make those historical materials accessible to members of the Society and the community.
  • To provide programs, exhibits and other educational opportunities to members of the Society and the community.
  • To assist members of the Society and the community with historical and genealogical research.
  • To cooperate with other organizations having similar purposes and interests.

Our focus includes present day Falmouth as well as Ancient Falmouth which prior to 1765 encompassed today's towns of Falmouth and Cape Elizabeth as well as the cities of Portland, South Portland and Westbrook.

The Falmouth Historical Society is a nonprofit staffed entirely by volunteers.  We need all the help we can get–please join us!

The Falmouth Heritage Museum and Barn is located at 60 Woods Road in Falmouth.  The buildings house our collection of artifacts and historical memorabilia, as well as serve as a focal point for many of our summer activities and events.
